Women’s Volleyball Makes History At National Tournament, Headed To Final Four

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The #5 Richard Bland College women's volleyball team moves to 32-3 overall after defeating #12 McHenry County College in the first round, and #4 Iowa Central Community College in the quarterfinal round of the NJCAA National Championship Tournament. With the first win of the day, the Statesmen made history by earning the women's volleyball program's first ever win at a national tournament! 

 

In the first round of the tournament, the Statesmen topped McHenry County in four competitive sets; 25-20, 25-15, 27-29 and 25-18, with multiple lead changes throughout. Leilani Goggin, Sarah Heath, and Silaulauinasimativa Aoelua led the attack with nine kills a piece. Goggin also added two blocks. Karagyn Durco chipped in with five service aces and 29 assists in the match. Rylie Harris tallied 18 digs for the Statesmen. 

 

In the quarterfinal match, the Statesmen took an early lead on Iowa Central and never looked back sweeping the Tritons; 25-14, 25-15 and 25-18. Hailey Hopkins led the attack with 14 kills. Goggin added 12, Heath added 10 and Sophia Kaiser added eight through three sets. Karagyn Durco assisted on 46 occasions and chipped in with seven digs, while Rylie Harris tallied 15 digs and three service aces. 

 

Richard Bland is headed to the Final Four of the NJCAA Division II Women's Volleyball National Tournament. The #5 Statesmen take on top seeded #1 Johnson County Community College in the semifinal match this evening, at 7:30pm est/6:30pm ct. Stay tuned for match updates on RBC Athletic social media pages.
