Women’s Volleyball Repeats As DII Volleyball Champs

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College women's volleyball team moves to 30-3 overall traveling to Wake Technical Community College for the semifinal and championship matches of the Region 10 Division II tournament. Richard Bland took down Fayetteville Technical Community College and Cape Fear Community College to repeat as the Region 10 Division II Volleyball Champions.

The Statesmen topped the Trojans of Fayetteville Technical Community College Saturday morning in three straight sets; 25-16, 25-18, and 25-11, to advance to the Region 10 Championship match. Leilani Goggin led the attack with 11 kills followed by Silaulauinasimativa Aoelua and Hailey Hopkins with nine each. Karagyn Durco chipped in with 37 assists, five digs, and one service ace, while Rylie Harris had 11 digs in the win.

In the championship match, the Statesmen took down the Sea Devils of Cape Fear in sweeping fashion with sets scores of 25-20, 25-19, and 25-10. Aoela and Sarah Heath led the attack with 12 kills each. Durco chipped in with 38 assists, four service aces, and eight digs, while Harris was credited with 19 digs and Goggin, two blocks.

Richard Bland College is the Region 10 Champion, Southeast District A Champion and receives a bid to the national tournament. The NJCAA DII Women's Volleyball Tournament will be played at the Alliant Energy Powerhouse in Cedar Rapids, IA on November 17-19, 2022.
