Women’s Volleyball Sweeps The Weekend

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College women's volleyball team moves to 13-2 overall, 4-0 in conference play after traveling to Cape Fear Community College on Friday afternoon, and competing in a tri match at Fayetteville Tech Community College on Saturday.

Friday evening, the Statesmen traveled to Wilmington, NC for a big conference matchup with nationally ranked opponent, Cape Fear Community College. The Statesmen wasted no time getting ahead and bringing home the three set sweep with scores as follows; 25-22, 26-24 and 25-20. Hailey Hopkins led the attack with 16 kills and added one block in the win. Sarah Heath and Leilani Goggin added eight and seven kills apiece. Karagyn Durco had 41 assists and four service aces to help the green and white to victory. Rylie Harris chipped in with 15 digs.

Saturday morning, the Statesmen opened up the day with an 11am match against Fayetteville Tech Community College. The Statesmen earned a three set victory to open the tri match; 25-7, 25-19 and 25-16. Hopkins and Heath led the attack with 16 and 10 kills. Durco chipped in with 38 assists, seven digs and five service aces. Jadyn Brown and Silaulauinasimativa Aoelua and Sophia Kaiser pitched in with eight digs each.

In their second match of the day, Richard Bland defeated Denmark Tech in a three set victory; 25-6, 25-7 and 25-8. Leilani Goggin and Jadyn Brown led the attack with seven kills each. Goggin also added 12 service aces through the three sets. Durco chipped in with 23 assists, five service aces and four digs. Harris had eight digs and six service aces in the win.

The Richard Bland women's volleyball team next hosts Lenoir Community College on Wednesday, September 28^th at 6pm.
