Men’s Soccer Triumphs On Sophomore Day

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College men's soccer team moves to 11-4 overall, 9-3 in conference play after hosting USC Salkehatchie Saturday afternoon in the final conference match of the season. Prior to the match, the men's soccer team recognized sophomores Raquan Bryant, Tyriq Amos, Matthew Lewis, Matthew Suarez, Alex Mendoza, Michael Afful, Duarte Veigas Mendes, Julian Rivera, Matthew McQueen, Josemaria Acosta Bello, Andrew Retmier, and Cristian Rodriguez for their efforts during their time in the green and white.

Richard Bland got on the board early in the second minute when Raquan Bryant found the back of the net to put the Statesmen ahead 1-0. Less than five minutes later, Michael Afful teamed up with Edgar Jose Reboredo Martins to push the Statesmen ahead 2-0. The score would remain 2-0 until the 39^th minute when Seraphim Davis found Jordan Richardson, for a Richardson tally. In the 50^th minute, Martins would tally again, followed by Jose David Tejeda Benitez to put the Statesmen up 5-0. The final two goals of the day for the green and white would come from Riley Newbold in the 81^st and 89^th minutes. Cristian Rodriguez made five saves through 80 minutes, while Mason Dycus manned the frame in the last 10 minutes of regulation.

With the win, the Statesmen finish the regular season in second place in Region 10 play. Richard Bland will play the winner of #3 vs #5, on Friday, October 28^th at 3:30pm in the semifinal round of the Region 10 Tournament.
