Women’s Volleyball Reverse Sweeps Top Seed, Heading To National Championship Match
SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The #5 Richard Bland College women's volleyball team moves to 33-3 overall after reverse sweeping top seed, #1 Johnson County Community College in the semifinal round of the NJCAA Division II National Championship Tournament this evening. With the win this evening, the Statesmen Women's Volleyball team has continued their historic season by advancing to the title match for the first time in program history!
Johnson County took an early 2-0 lead, but the Statesmen fought back to reverse sweep the Cavaliers; 19-25, 21-25, 25-18, 25-20 and 15-11. Through back and forth play throughout all five sets, the Statesmen energy came at the right time, helping them sail to victory. Hailey Hopkins and Leilani Goggin led the Statesmen attack with 18 and 16 kills. Silaulauinasimativa Aoelua and Sarah Heath added 13 and 11 kills. Karagyn Durco assisted on 52 occasions and tallied 12 digs through the five set match. Rylie Harris led the defense with 16 digs, followed by Aoelua with 15. Sydney Phillips added three services aces in the win.
Richard Bland is headed to the NJCAA Division II Women's Volleyball National Championship match for the first time ever in program history! The #5 Statesmen take on the #6 Scottsdale Community College Artichokes for the championship title tomorrow, November 19th at 7:30pm EST/6:30pm CT.
