Women’s Volleyball Goes 2-0 On Opening Weekend

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College women's volleyball team moves to 2-0 overall after opening the season this weekend. The Statesmen traveled to Davidson-Davie Community College for a tri-match on Saturday, August 27th.
In match 1, the Statesmen downed the Bantams of USC Union 3-0 with set scores of 25-7, 25-8, and 25-15. On the attack, Hailey Hopkins, Sarah Heath and Sophia Kaiser led with nine, eight, and seven kills. Karagyn Durco was credited with 31 assists and four service aces through three sets. Jadyn Brown also added six service aces and Rylie Harris had six digs. Hopkins had 2 blocks for Richard Bland.
In match 2, the Storm of Davidson-Davie Community College put up a fight, but the Statesmen came out on top in a 3-0 win, with set scores of 27-25, 25-14, and 25-21. Leilani Goggin led the Statesmen with 10 kills on attack. Durco was credited with 29 assists, and Harris notched 16 digs in the win. Gabby Figueroa and Hailey Hopkins had two blocks each.
The Richard Bland women's volleyball team next hosts Harford Community College in a weekday match up on Tuesday, August 30th at 4pm.
