Women’s Soccer Downs Eagles At Home

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College women's soccer team moves to 2-5 overall, 0-3 in conference play, after hosting Wake Technical Community College Wednesday afternoon. 

 

Richard Bland took an early lead in the 15th minute on a breakaway up the middle by Lana Hatch. Wake Tech evened the game 1-1, 20 minutes later. On a ball by Hannah Pfleiger, Lana Hatch added her second tally of the day a minute later to put the Statesmen ahead 2-1. Before the conclusion of the first 45 minutes, Richard Bland was fouled in the 18 yard box and earned a penalty shot. Angie Finnerty capitalized on the opportunity and struck the ball past the keeper to put the Statesmen ahead 3-1. In the 49th and 52nd minutes, Wake Tech found the back of the net to even the score 3-3. In the 64th minute, Candace Johnson and Celissa Samora-Nixon teamed up on a free kick to bring the Statesmen ahead one more time, 4-3, and would be the final goal scored in regulation.

 

Tiffany Hargett was credited with 11 saves between the pipes in the non conference win.

 

The Richard Bland women's soccer team next hosts Hagerstown Community College in a non conference match up on Sunday, September 25th. Kickoff is set for 11am.
