SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College women's soccer team moves to 0-1 overall after opening the season this afternoon against Louisburg College. The Statesmen hosted the Hurricanes in a midday non-conference contest.
Louisburg College struck first in the 18th minute. Less than 10 minutes later, the Hurricanes found the back of the net again to take a 2-0 lead. With five minutes remaining in the first half, Sasha Fields played a long ball over the top of the Hurricane defense and Kylie Jackson put the Statesmen on the board. The score remained 2-1 Louisburg through the end of the half. In the 79th minute, Jackson teamed up with Lana Hatch to even the score 2-2. With eight minutes remaining in regulation, the Hurricanes snuck one final ball in between the pipes to seal the win.
Tiffany Hargett was credited with 12 saves in net through 90 minutes of play. Angie Finnerty and Kylie Jackson led the attack, each with three shots on goal.
The Richard Bland women's soccer team next hosts Spartanburg Methodist College on Saturday, September 3rd at 4pm, to open conference play.
