Statesmen Stomp Louisburg In Non-Conference Contest

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College men's soccer team moves to 4-0 overall, 3-0 in conference play after hosting Louisburg College in a nonconference contest Tuesday afternoon.

 

The Statesmen took an early lead in the 11th minute with a goal by Michael Afful, and never looked back. The Hurricanes would even the score in the 17th minute. Shortly after, Raquan Bryant put the green and white ahead which would become the game winning goal in the 24th minute. Richard Bland struck once more before the 45 minute mark on an unassisted goal by Duarte Veigas Mendes to put the Statesmen ahead 3-1, heading into halftime. Seven minutes into the second half, Michael Afful added his second tally of the day. Less than 10 minutes later, Duarte Veigas Mendes and Jordan Richardson teamed up and found the back of the net to put Richard Bland ahead 5-1. Rounding out the scoring for the Statesmen, Neville Assoti pushed one past the keeper in the 80th minute. The Hurricanes were able to tally a second goal, but the Statesmen outlasted, taking the 6-2 win.

 

In 60 minutes of play between the pipes, Cristian Rodriguez was credited with three saves. Mason Dycus was credited with three saves in the final 30 minutes.

 

The Richard Bland men's soccer team next travels to USC Lancaster on Friday, September 16th for a 1pm kickoff.
