Multiple Statesmen Go Yard to Push Baseball Past Dolphins

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College baseball team moves to 7-31 overall, 7-24 in conference play after traveling to Brunswick Community College for the three-game series this weekend.

In game one, Richard Bland fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 3-5 loss to the Dolphins. Richard Bland lost despite out-hitting Brunswick, nine to six. Richard Bland socked one home run on the day. Nick Guerra had a four bagger in the fifth inning. Kaleikaumaka Grebin, Matt Stevenson, and Guerra each racked up multiple hits for Richard Bland. Darren Osborne took the loss for Richard Bland. The pitcher allowed four hits and three runs over four innings, striking out five and walking one.

In game two, Richard Bland defeated the Dolphins 15-6 after taking the lead late in the game. The game was tied at six with Richard Bland batting in the top of the eighth when Jamari Pooler drew a walk, scoring one run. The base paths were crowded in this high-scoring game. Richard Bland collected 12 hits and the Dolphins seven. Richard Bland fired up the offense in the first inning, when Matt Stevenson homered on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs. Richard Bland hit four home runs in the nightcap. Pooler had a long ball in the fifth. Nick Guerra went deep in the eighth inning. Stevenson went yard in the first inning, and Grebin went for the long ball in the first inning. Tucker Webb started the game for Richard Bland. Webb surrendered one run on one hit over two innings, striking out three. Matthew Boyd led Richard Bland to Victory on the mound. The pitcher allowed two hits and zero runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out six. Matthew Caldwell and Connor Sakamoto entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

In game three, Richard Bland got out to a four-run lead in the second inning and held on for a 4-3 victory over the Dolphins. Brunswick managed three runs in the failed comeback. Richard Bland opened up the scoring in the second inning, when Maddaux Childress singled on a 3-1 count, scoring one run. Richard Bland socked one home run on the day. Jamari Pooler had a dinger in the second inning. Childress went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Richard Bland. Roman Borders was the winning pitcher for the Statesmen. The righthander went four and a third innings, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out three and walking one. Reece Hamilton, Ben Adams, and Gavin Riley all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team towards the victory. Riley recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Richard Bland.

The Richard Bland College baseball team next hosts Bryant & Stratton College (VA) on Wednesday, April 26^th in a single, nine inning game. First pitch is set for 2pm.
