Baseball Sweeps Gators in Non Conference Match-up

 SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College baseball team moves to 4-15 overall, 2-12 in conference play after hosting Virginia Peninsula Community College Wednesday afternoon.

 

In game one, Richard Bland claimed a blow-out victory over the Gators, 11-1. Richard Bland cruised to an easy victory by opening up the scoring in the first inning. Jacob Roy singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run. Richard Bland notched three runs in the fifth inning. The Statesmen put the pressure on, led by a single by Matt Stevenson, a sacrifice fly by Michael Caliz, and an error on a ball put in play by Carter Jones. Richard Bland tallied 10 hits. Caliz, Herod, Jones, and Stevenson each collected two hits for the Statesmen including a four bagger by Caliz in the second inning. Codie Maitland was the winning pitcher. The righthander went four innings, allowing one run on five hits and striking out four. Landon Hoge threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

 

In game two, Richard Bland set the stage for victory with an early lead over the Gators to earn a 14-7 victory in the nightcap. Richard Bland pulled away for good with six runs in the second inning. In the second, Landon Scott doubled on a 3-2 count, scoring two runs. Michael Caliz doubled on the first pitched of the at bat, scoring two runs, and Matt Stevenson homered on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs. Richard Bland smacked three home runs on the day including Stevenson's four bagger in the second, and a Stevenson four bagger in the fifth. Carter Jones went yard in the sixth inning. Richard Bland collected 12 hits in the win. Jones led Richard Bland with three hits in four at bats. Tucker Webb was the winning pitcher for Richard Bland. The righthander allowed four hits and one run over two innings, striking out five and walking zero. Andrew Bottari started the game for Richard Bland. The righty allowed two hits and three runs over one inning, striking out two and walking zero.

 

The Richard Bland College baseball team next hosts Hampden-Sydney College JV tomorrow, March 16th at Dinwiddie Sports Complex at 1pm.
