SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College baseball team moves to 2-12 overall, 2-9 in conference play after hosting Fayetteville Technical Community College for the three-game weekend series Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
In game one, Richard Bland fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 2-10 loss to Fayetteville Technical Community College on Saturday. Richard Bland struggled to contain the high-powered offense of the Trojans, giving up ten runs. Kaleikaumaka Grebin went 1-for-4 at the plate to lead Richard Bland. Gavin Riley took the loss for the Statesmen. The southpaw allowed five hits and five runs over two and a third innings, striking out six.
In game two, Richard Bland took the lead late in the game in a 10-8 victory over the Trojans. Richard Bland was down 5-6 in the bottom of the sixth inning when Landon Scott doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs. Both offenses were strong at the plate as Richard Bland collected ten hits and the Trojans seven. Scott and Matt Stevenson all had multiple hits Richard Bland. Scott led with three hits in four at bats. Matthew Boyd pitched Richard Bland to victory. Boyd lasted six and a third innings, allowing five hits and six runs while striking out five. Connor Sakamoto threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
In game three, Richard Bland watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 6-7 loss. Fayetteville scored on a single in the first inning, a walk in the second inning, a home run in the second inning, and a double in the second inning. After the Trojans scored one run in the top of the eighth, Richard Bland answered with one of their own, when Nick Guerra hit a solo homer. Richard Bland collected 13 hits in the high-scoring affair. Kaleikaumaka Grebin, Matt Stevenson, Jacob Roy, Michael Caliz, and Guerra each racked up multiple hits for the Statesmen. Along with Guerra's solo homer, Landon Scott also homered in the second inning. Codie Maitland took the loss for Richard Bland. The pitcher surrendered five runs on three hits over one and two-thirds innings, striking out one.
The Richard Bland College baseball team next hosts Brunswick Community College on Saturday, March 11th for the weekend conference series. Day one begins at 12pm. Game three of the series will begin at 12pm on Sunday, March 12th.
