SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College of William and Mary Baseball team moves to 6-11 in conference, 8-13 overall after hosting Southeastern Community College-Whiteville this past weekend.
In game 1, Richard Bland fell to Southeastern after a late score in the top of the 11th inning. Dylan Barber collected five hits in defeat. Barber homered in the first, singled in the third, doubled in the fifth, singled in the seventh, and singled in the eleventh. Jayvon Brown's sac fly opened up the scoring in the first inning, scoring one run for the Statesmen. Richard Bland notched four runs in the fifth inning. The offense in the inning was led by Rixon Webb, Chris Polymeropoulos William Bean, and Brown, all driving in runs. Brandon Arrowood toed the rubber for Richard Bland. The hurler lasted six innings, allowing five hits and five runs while striking out six. Spencer Fillhart, Connor Woodel, Carson Pardue, and Codie Maitland each entered the game as relief, throwing two and a third innings, two innings, one-third of an inning, and one-third of an inning respectively. Evan Hornsby put one out in the sixth inning for the team's second home run of the day.
In game 2, the Rams got three runs on the board in the top of the first, and the Statesmen answered back with 2 of their own. The Rams would go on to score 1 additional run in the third and fifth innings to take the narrow 5-2 win. Gavin Riley led things off on the hill for Richard Bland. The hurler went two and a third innings, allowing four runs on six hits and striking out three. Dylan Barber went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Richard Bland in hits.
In game 3, Richard Bland defeated Southeastern 7-4. Richard Bland fired up the offense in the first inning. Nate Sherman singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run. Richard Bland scored five runs in the fourth inning. The offensive onslaught by Richard Bland was led by Taylor Morris, Nick Guerra, and Dylan Barber, all driving in runs in the inning. Davis Snyder got the start for Richard Bland. The fireballer lasted seven innings, allowing five hits and two runs while striking out five and walking one. Richard Bland socked one home run on the day. Zachary Streib put one out in the eighth inning. Richard Bland totaled 11 hits in the game. Sherman, Streib, and William Bean all managed multiple hits.
Richard Bland baseball next travels to Pitt Community College this Saturday, April 2nd for the series opener, beginning at 1pm.
