Three-Peat: Women’s Volleyball Named Region 10 Tournament Champions

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The #6 (#1 Region 10 seed) Richard Bland College women's volleyball team competed against #4 seeded Southwest Virginia Community College in the Region 10 Semifinals Saturday morning after a Quarterfinal victory over #8 Lenoir Community College Friday afternoon. The Statesmen advanced to the Region 10 Championship Saturday afternoon after defeating the Flying Eagles, and earned a three-set sweep over the Yetis for the third-straight Region 10 Division II Tournament Championship title. After completion of the weekend, the Richard Bland College women's volleyball team moved to 30-4 overall and have advanced to the Southeast A District Tournament.

In the semifinal match, the Statesmen defeated the Flying Eagles of #4 Southwest Virginia Community College, 3-0 with set scores of 25-13, 25-23, and 25-20. Richard Bland totaled 43 kills, led by Taelin Connolley with 18 and Lovina Teel with 15. Rachel Pickens added five and Aliyah Millner four in the win. Alexis Scipione garnered 34 assists, five digs, and one service ace, while Connolley added 15 digs, and Phoebe Heath 10 for the Statesmen. With the win, the Statesmen advanced to the Region 10 DII Championship.

In the championship match, Richard Bland defeated the Yetis of #3 Cleveland Community College, 3-0 with set scores of 25-18, 25-23, and 25-19. Lovina Teel had a monster game leading the way with 20 kills on offense. Taelin Connolley added 14 and Rachel Pickens 10, along with nine and four digs. Phoebe Heath led the defense with 14 digs, while Alexis Scipione totaled 37 assists and 10 digs in the win.

Following the match, these individuals were named to the Region 10 All-Tournament Team: Taelin Connolley, Phoebe Heath, and Lovina Teel. Teel was also named the Region 10 Tournament Most Valuable Player.

The Richard Bland College women's volleyball team next prepares for the Southeast District Tournament which will be hosted in Statesman Hall on Friday, November 8^th. The Statesmen will face the Region 7 Runner-Up, Chattanooga State Community College in the Southeast A District title match at 1pm. Richard Bland will also play host for the Southeast B District title match between Region 10 Runner-up, Cleveland Community College and Region 7 Champion, Walters State Community College at 3pm.
