SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — The Richard Bland College Women's Soccer team traveled to Eastern Mennonite University Wednesday evening for an exhibition match.
The two sides battled through a scoreless first half, with goalkeeper Piper Whitney anchoring the RBC defense by turning away several early chances. The Statesmen generated four shots before the break, including a close-range effort from Jade Perkins.
The breakthrough came in the 64th minute when EMU's Hailey Walker scored unassisted to put the Royals in front. Despite late pressure from RBC, including shots on target from Perkins and Rhianna Pena, the Statesmen were unable to find an equalizer.
Whitney finished the match with nine saves on 10 shots faced, keeping RBC within striking distance throughout the contest. Overall, the Statesmen registered six shots, three on goal, compared to 20 total attempts by the hosts.
RBC will look to regroup for next weekend when the team returns home to face Central Carolina Community College Club team on Saturday, September 20, with kickoff set for 1p.m. at Willcox Field.
