SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College women's soccer team opened the season on the road Wednesday afternoon as they faced the Hurricanes of Louisburg College. In the game, the Statesmen earned a 0-0 tie, moving to 0-0-1 in conference play and overall.
The Statesmen battled through 90 minutes of play with Louisburg, earning 14 shots, seven shots on goal. Grace Pope led the offense with three shots on goal, while Sara Sparked had three shots, and Jenna Autry two. Richard Bland tallied three corner kicks on the day, two of which were in the final minute of the game, but fell just short of capitalizing, forcing a 0-0 tie.
Emily Orn started the game between the pipes for Richard Bland. She was credited with one save and one shot on goal in all 90 minutes of play.
The Richard Bland College women's soccer team next travels to Southwest Virginia Community College on Saturday, August 31st. Kickoff is set for 3:30pm.
