Women's Soccer Stomps the Fire Ants
SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College of William and Mary Women's Soccer team moves to 5-6 overall and 4-4 in conference play after the final regular season match this morning, against USC Sumter.
The Statesmen got the scoring started early with a goal in the 4th minute of play by Alexis Elrod from Gabriella Sylstra. The score would remain 1-0 Statesmen until the 36th minute when Gabriella Sylstra found the back of the net from a Jennifer Argueta ball, to put the Statesmen ahead 2-0 through the first half.
Continuing the momentum into the second half, Sasha Fields netted 3 goals of her own before the 64th minute to put the Statesmen ahead 5-0. Sylstra was credited with the assist of Fields' final tally. In the 67th minute Amanda-Grace Marshall found the back of the net and wouldn't look back, scoring 3 goals in a row. Sylstra and Hannah Jackson were credited with assists on 2 of Marshall's tallies. Rounding out the scoring, Gabriella Sylstra put the Statesmen ahead 9-0 in the 81st minute and would go on to defeat USC Sumter in regulation.
Tiffany Hargett was credited with 2 saves in 77 minutes of play. Kamiah Stewart made 2 saves in her debut in net for the final 13 minutes.
Richard Bland women's soccer next travels to USC Lancaster, Tuesday October 26th for a 3pm semifinal playoff game start.
