Women's Basketball Welcomes Sydney Boone as Assistant Coach

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA - Richard Bland College Women's Basketball has announced the hiring of Sydney Boone as an Assistant Coach, bringing a wealth of Division I playing experience and coaching knowledge to the Statesmen program.

Boone joins Richard Bland after serving on the staff of the Delaware State University women's basketball program, where she contributed to recruiting, player development, scouting, academic support, team travel coordination, and daily basketball operations. Her experience working within a Division I program has prepared her to make an immediate impact on the continued growth of Richard Bland women's basketball.

"We are excited to welcome Coach Syd on board to start her college coaching journey here at RBC," says Head Coach, Tia Byrd. "We share the same mindset when it comes to the vision we have for our program. She is ambitious, hardworking, and goal driven. Her ability to connect with our student-athletes, basketball IQ, and player development experience, will have a great impact on this program."

A standout collegiate point guard, Boone played at both the University of Richmond and the University of Delaware. At Delaware, she served as team captain and earned the respect of teammates and coaches through her leadership, work ethic, and commitment to excellence. During her playing career, she balanced the demands of Division I athletics while pursuing academic success and serving as a mentor within her teams.

Before her collegiate career, Boone starred at Highland Springs High School, where she was named Region 5B Player of the Year, Metro Player of the Year, and First Team All-State. She helped lead the program to a Virginia State Championship and earned multiple tournament MVP honors.

In addition to her collegiate experience, Boone has worked extensively in player development through individual training sessions, youth camps, and skill instruction. She has designed individualized development plans, conducted film analysis, and worked with athletes at multiple levels to improve their performance on and off the court.

Boone holds a Bachelor's Degree in History and a Master's Degree in International Business from the University of Delaware and recently completed her Master's Degree in Sport Management at Delaware State University.

Boone joins the Statesmen coaching staff ahead of the 2026-27 season as the program continues to build toward competing for Region 10 and NJCAA postseason success.
