Flying Eagles Down Statesmen in Women’s Basketball Action
SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team hosted the Flying Eagles of Southwest Virginia Community College Saturday afternoon, in their second meeting of the season. After completion of the conference contest, the Statesmen moved to 5-13 overall, 5-10 in conference play.
Saturday afternoon, the Statesmen struggled to get their offense in a rhythm, scoring only seven points in the first period. Richard Bland added 10 more in the second, but trailed 17-37 at the break, due to an outburst of 25 points by the Flying Eagles in the second period. Richard Bland scored 14 in the third and matched the Flying Eagles with 19 in the fourth, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit, as the Statesmen dropped the conference contest 50-72.
DaNiya McClure led the way with 18 points, four rebounds, three assists, two steals, and one block. Ni'Ana Hill followed closely behind with 14 points, five rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Ma'Liyah Hodges added seven points, Mya Mewborn five, and Jaylah Mercer three for Richard Bland. Khamaya Earley and Keimare Gray chipped in with six and four rebounds in the loss.
Richard Bland shot 30.8% from the field, 25.0% from the perimeter, and 66.7% from the charity stripe.
The Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team next travels to Catawba Valley Community College on Monday, February 10th in a rescheduled contest with the Red Hawks.
