Statesmen Downed by Dolphins in Women’s Basketball Action
SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team hosted the Dolphins of Brunswick Community College Sunday afternoon, in their second meeting of the season. After completion of the conference contest, the Statesmen moved to 5-12 overall, 5-9 in conference play.
Keimare Gray put the Statesmen on the board first and helped Richard Bland take an early 17-15 lead after one period. The Dolphins put up a fight in the second period, leveling the game at 31 at the break. Richard Bland added 14 points in the third, and 18 points in the fourth, but it was not enough as the Dolphins took home a narrow two-point, 63-65 victory.
DaNiya McClure led the way with her fourth double-double of the season posting 18 points, 11 rebounds two assists, and two steals. Ni'Ana Hill scored her sixth double-double of the season with 13 points, 13 rebounds, five assists, two steals, and one block. Ma'Liyah Hodges and Aryauna Brent each added 11 points, and four and three rebounds. Keimare Gray tallied 12 rebounds and five points in the game, and Mya Mewborn five points, and two rebounds.
Richard Bland shot 32.0% from the field, 41.7% from the perimeter, and 47.6% from the charity stripe.
The Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team next hosts Southwest Virginia Community College on Saturday, February 8th at 1pm.
