Hodges Leads Statesmen Against Yetis
SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team traveled to Cleveland Community College Monday evening for their second meeting of the season, and first game of 2025. After completion of the conference contest, the Statesmen moved to 3-10 overall, 3-7 in conference play.
Monday evening opened in a back and forth battle between the Statesmen and the Yetis. Ni"Ana Hill scored a layup to put Richard Bland ahead first, but the Yetis followed up with one of their own. Ma'Liyah Hodges took charge driving in for a layup of her own, to put Richard Bland ahead 4-2. By the end of the first quarter, the Statesmen trailed 12-17. Richard Bland scored 10 points in the second quarter, but trailed 22-40 at the break. The Statesmen were the first to score in the third quarter, as Khamaya Earley was fouled, and hit one of two free throws. Richard Bland added 12 points in the third and 20 in the fourth, but it was not enough as they fell 54-85 to Cleveland Community College.
Ma'Liyah Hodges led the way for Richard Bland with 17 points, eight rebounds, one assist, and one steal. Khamaya Earley added 11 points, eight rebounds, and one block, while Ni'Ana Hill had 11 rebounds, eight points, one assist, and one block. Aryauna Brent chipped in with nine points and five assists, and DaNiya Warren McClure nine rebounds and seven points in the loss.
Richard Bland shot 24.4% from the field, 12.5% from the perimeter, and 42.9% from the charity stripe.
The Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team next travels to Guilford Technical Community College on Friday, January 17th for a 6pm conference contest with the Titans.
