Earley, McClure Score Double-Doubles in Conference Win Over Titans

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team hosted Guilford Technical Community College Tuesday evening, for a Region 10 conference battle. After completion of the contest, the Statesmen moved to 3-4 overall, 3-2 in conference play.

 

Guilford Tech got on the board first with a layup off the tip-off. The Statesmen answered quickly with an Earley bucket. DaNiya McClure added back to back layups to take a 6-2 lead. Earley earned a put-back bucket and was fouled, and increased the lead, 9-2. Richard Bland lead 22-16 after one quarter, and 35-29 at the break. The Titans came out strong in the third quarter, and held a two-point lead, 53-55 through three quarters, but Richard Bland fought hard in the final period and held on for the 74-71 conference win.

 

Four Statesmen scored double figures in the win, led by Aryauna Brent with 22 points, five steals, four assists, and three rebounds. Ma'Liyah Hodges had 17 points on the evening, along with four steals, three rebounds, and one assist. Khamaya Earley and DaNiya McClure scored their first double-doubles of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds, and 12 points and 10 rebounds. Keimare Gray chipped in with five points and four rebounds off the bench. Mya Mewborn and Ava Meanor added two points each and Ni'Ana Hill one in the win.

 

Richard Bland shot 25.3% from the field, 22.7% from the perimeter, and 65.9% from the charity stripe.

 

The Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team next travels to Louisburg College on Thursday, December 5th for a 4pm tip-off.
