Three Statesmen Score Double Figures in Conference Opener

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team traveled to Wake Technical Community College Wednesday evening for the conference opener against the Eagles. After completion of the game, the Statesmen moved to 0-3 overall.

 

Richard Bland got on the board first thanks to Ni'Ana Hill. Less than thiry seconds later, Khamaya Earley was fouled and hit both at the free throw line to extend the lead to four. Mya Mewborn was then fouled and extended the lead to five. Down on the defensive end of the floor, Keimare Gray grabbed a defensive board and found Hill for an easy transition layup, pushing the Statesmen lead, 7-0. Gray then scored a layup of her own in fast break transition to lead 9-0 halfway through the first period. Richard Bland led 16-15 at the end of the first, and trailed 26-39 at the break. The statesmen outscored the Eagles in the third and fourth quarters but it was not enough, as Richard Bland fell 61-66.

 

Aryauna Brent led the way with 18 points, five steals, three rebounds, and two assists. Ni'Ana Hill scored her first double-double of the season with 13 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, and one steal. Khamaya Earley chipped in with 11 points and nine rebounds. Mya Mewborn and Ma'Liyah Hodges scored eight points each, and Keimare Gray three in the loss.

 

Richard Bland shot 26.7% from the field, 18.2% from the perimeter, and 81.0% from the charity stripe.

 

The Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team next travels to Virginia Peninsula Community College on Saturday, November 9th. Tip-off is set for 2pm.
