Matthews Commits to Virginia Union University
SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – Kennedee Matthews, a sophomore on the Richard Bland College women's basketball team has committed to continue her academic and athletic career at NCAA Division II Virginia Union University in Richmond, Virginia.
The Chesapeake, Virginia native contributed to much success for the 2nd year program. She has been a key member to the women's basketball team success in Region 10 and at the National level over the course of the last two seasons.
In her first season, Matthews started 15 of 27 games played. She tallied 177 points, 86 assists, 86 rebounds, and 34 steals.
In her second season, Matthews started all 26 games averaging 17.9 points per game, 3.4 rebounds per game, 49.5 fg%, 42.8 3pt%, and 84.0 ft%. Matthews tallied 458 total points, 84 rebounds, 78 assists, 48 steals, and five blocks. She notched double-digit figures in 22 of 24 games for the Statesmen. Her best outing was on November 17th against Brunswick Community College, tallying 34 points. Matthews was named 1st Team All-Region 10 for her efforts on the season.
Virginia Union University is a Division II member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and Central Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (CIAA).
