Jones Signs With North Carolina Central University

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – Janiah Jones, a member of the inaugural Richard Bland College national champion runners up women's basketball team, has signed her national letter of intent to continue her academic and athletic career at NCAA Division I North Carolina Central University, beginning fall 2023.

 

The Woodbridge, VA native contributed to much success for the first year program. Jones transferred from the College of Southern Maryland to Richard Bland College for her sophomore season. In her campaign in the green and white, Jones helped her team reach a 29-3 overall record, 16-2 in conference play. The team defeated Catawba Valley Community College in the Region 10 Championship contest, to earn a bid at the 2022-23 NJCAA National Tournament. Jones was a key player in the NJCAA National Tournament as she helped her team defeat #9 Mid-Michigan, upset #1 Morton, and upset #5 Harcum College to get to the championship game. Jones was named to the NJCAA Division II All-Tournament team.

 

On the season, Jones started 10 of 29 games played for a total of 175 minutes. She went 147-350 for a field goal percentage of 42.0. At the perimeter Jones went 30-89, averaging 33.7. At the charity stripe, she made 76-108 for a 70.4 free throw percentage. Jones totaled 400 points, 111 rebounds, 48 assists, 47 steals, and three blocks.

 

North Carolina Central University, located in Durham, North Carolina is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I and Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC).
