Women’s Basketball Defeats Lakers, Headed to NJCAA Quarterfinals

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team moves to 27-2 overall after defeating #9 Mid-Michigan in the first round of the NJCAA Division II Women's Basketball National Tournament, held in Port Huron, Michigan.

 

The Statesmen and Lakers battled through multiple lead changes in regulation. The first period concluded with the Statesmen taking the early 24-19 lead. The Lakers came out on top by two in the second period to take a 46-44 lead into the break. Richard Bland outscored the Lakers by six in the third, while the Lakers reversed roles and outscored the Statesmen in the final period. Richard Bland held on to survive and advances to the quarterfinal round, after their 88-85 first round victory.

 

Five Statesmen scored double-digit figures in the win led by a near triple-double from Auzhane Allard with 17 points, 15 rebounds, eight assists, two steals, and two blocks. Jasmine Norman, Courtney Scott, Lauryn Bell, and Janiah Jones all tallied 16 points in the win. With her 16 points, Scott tallied a double-double adding 11 rebounds, two steals, and two blocks. Norman added three steals, two assists, one rebound, and one block. Bell assisted on four occasions and had two steals, while Jones had six rebounds, one assist, and one steal. Amira Roy chipped in with five points, eight rebounds, and one block.

 

Richard Bland went 51.5% from the charity stripe, 40.7% from the field, and 17.9% from the perimeter.

 

The Richard Bland College women's basketball team next prepares for the NJCAA Division II Women's Basketball National Tournament Quarterfinals. The Statesmen will take on top seed #1 Morton College on Thursday, March 23rd at 6pm.
