Women’s Basketball Drops Heartbreaker

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The #16 Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team finishes the regular season 23-2 overall, 16-2 in conference play after traveling to Catawba Valley Community College Friday afternoon.

 

The Statesmen took an early 19-17 lead through the first period. The Red Hawks fought back outscoring Richard Bland by one in the second, as Richard Bland would hold a 35-34 lead at the half. Richard Bland took the third period by two but Catawba Valley finished strong outscoring the Statesmen 22-16 to take the 72-69 win.

 

Three Statesmen scored double-digit figures in the loss led by Jasmine Norman with 23 points. Norman also added six steals, two rebounds, and two blocks. Janiah Jones had 15 points, six rebounds, two steals, and one assist off the bench. Courtney Scott had 10 points, nine rebounds, four steals, and one assist. Auzhane Allard had eight points, seven assists, four rebounds, and three steals. Lauryn Bell chipped in with seven points and four assists, while Kennedee Matthews added four points and Amira Roy two. Mercedes Gaither added five boards in the loss.

 

Richard Bland went 55.6% from the charity stripe, 40.3% from the field, and 35.7% from the perimeter.

 

The Richard Bland College women's basketball team next prepares for the Region 10/Atlantic District Tournament which takes place March 9th-11th, 2023 at Wake Technical Community College. Richard Bland will enter as the #2 seed and will compete in the Quarterfinals on Thursday, March 9th at 5pm against the winner of the #10 seed vs the #7 seed. Final schedule and seedings will be announced soon.
