Statesmen Defeat Hurricanes on the Road

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The #16 Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team moves to 21-1 overall, 14-1 in conference play after traveling to Louisburg College Wednesday evening for a conference contest.

 

Richard Bland took an early, 19-16 lead through the first quarter, and carried a 51-30 lead into the break. The Statesmen came out of the break hot, outscoring the Hurricanes 26-19 in the third. The Hurricanes would outscore the Statesmen by one in the fourth, but Richard Bland would earn a commanding 100-73 conference win on the road.

 

Four Statesmen scored double-digit figures in the win led by Jasmine Norman with 23 points. Norman also added six rebounds, three blocks, three assists, and one steal. Amira Roy chipped in with 20 points and seven rebounds. Off the bench, Janiah Jones added 19 points, four assists, three rebounds, and two steals. Auzhane Allard added 10 points, nine rebounds, three assists, two steals, and one block. Kennedee Matthews scored six points, five assists, four rebounds, and one steal. Chamara Martin and Natayvia Lipscomb matched and five points each, while Courtney Scott, Lauryn Bell, and Mercedes Gaither had four points each. Scott also added seven assists, seven steals, five rebounds, and two blocks. Bell added two assists and one rebound, and Gaither added one block.

 

Richard Bland went 81.3% from the charity stripe, 48.8% from the field, and 33.3% from the perimeter.

 

The Richard Bland College women's basketball team next travels to Southwest Virginia Community College on Saturday, February 25th. Tip-off is set for 2pm.
