Women’s Basketball Wins Big on Sophomore Day

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The #20 Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team moves to 19-1 overall, 12-1 in conference play after hosting Southwest Virginia Community College Saturday afternoon.

 

Richard Bland took an early, 26-9 lead through the first quarter, and carried a 52-20 lead into the break. The Statesmen came out of the break hot, outscoring the Sea Devils 34-16 in the third and 33-27 in the fourth to earn the conference win at home on sophomore day.

 

Five Statesmen scored double-digit figures in the win led by Jasmine Norman with 26 points, six assists, five rebounds, five steals, and one block. Amira Roy tallied her first double-double of the season with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Auzhane Allard notched her 13th double-double of the season with 22 points and 14 rebounds. Allard also added five assists and one block. Janiah Jones chipped in with 12 points and five assists, while Kennedee Matthews added 11 points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Natayvia Lipscomb had eight points, Mercedes Gaither six, Courtney Scott five points, nine rebounds, and eight assists, and Chamara Martin and Reiley Gibson three points each.

 

Richard Bland went 81.3% from the charity stripe, 52.3% from the field, and 51.6% from the perimeter.

 

The Richard Bland College women's basketball team next travels to Bryant & Stratton College (VA) on Wednesday, February 15th for a rescheduled conference game. Tip-off is set for 6:30pm.
