Women’s Basketball Picks Up 17th Win

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The #16 Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team moves to 17-0 overall, 10-0 in conference play after traveling to Cape Fear Community College Saturday afternoon.

 

Richard Bland took an early, 21-10 lead through the first quarter. The Sea Devils outscored Richard Bland 20-16 in the second, with the Statesmen holding a 37-30 lead at the break. The Statesmen held on and outscored the Sea Devils by 15 in the third and nine in the fourth to bring home the 92-61 conference victory.

 

Four Statesmen scored double-digit figures in the win led by Jasmine Norman with 24 points. Norman also added four rebounds, four assists and three steals. Auzhane Allarad notched her 10th double-double outing of the season with 22 points and 19 rebounds. Norman also added six assists. Amira Roy had 14 points and nine rebounds off the bench. Courtney Scott tallied her fifth double-double of the season with 13 points and 13 boards. Scott also added five assists, one steal and one block.

 

Richard Bland went 64.0% from the charity stripe, 43.0% from the field, and 42.1% from the perimeter.

 

The Richard Bland College women's basketball team next hosts Bryant & Stratton College (VA) on Wednesday, February 1st at 6pm. Richard Bland is currently tied with the Bobcats for 1st place in Region 10. Both teams are undefeated, 10-0 in conference play. The Bobcats are 15-1 overall.

 

The inaugural Richard Bland women's basketball team has been in the NJCAA Division II women's basketball rankings since week three of the season when they began receiving votes, on November 21, 2022. In week four and five, the Statesmen also received votes. In week six, December 12, 2022, the Statesmen took over at #20. In week seven Richard Bland moved up one spot to #19. In week eight, Richard Bland moved up three spots to #16 and has maintained their position through week 10.
