Statesmen Outlast Hurricanes in Conference Contest

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The #16 Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team moves to 16-0 overall, 9-0 in conference play after hosting the Hurricanes of Louisburg College Wednesday evening.

 

The Statesmen took an early 23-11 lead through the first period. The Hurricanes outscored the Statesmen by one in the second to bring the score 43-32 in Richard Bland's favor at the break. Louisburg again, outscored Richard Bland in the third and fourth periods and would come within seven points, however, the Statesmen held on tight and came out victorious 82-74 at the final buzzer.

 

Three Statesmen scored double-digit figures in the win led by Auzhane Allard with her ninth double-double of the season. Allard scored 26 points and added 19 rebounds and seven assists in the win. Jasmine Norman scored her first double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Norman also added three assists, three blocks and one steal. Off the bench, Janiah Jones was credited with 10 points and six rebounds. Courtney Scott and Lauryn Bell had nine points each. Scott chipped in with 10 rebounds and Bell five. Amira Roy scored eight points and grabbed eight boards in the win.

 

Richard Bland went 53.3% from the charity stripe, 39.2% from the field, and 20.0% at the perimeter.

 

The Richard Bland College women's basketball team next travels to Cape Fear Community College on Saturday, January 28th for a 1pm contest.
