Women’s Basketball Sweeps Series with Eagles

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College of William and Mary Women's Basketball team moves to 13-0 overall, 7-0 in conference play after traveling to Wake Technical Community College yesterday evening.

 

In the first meeting of the season, the Statesmen defeated the Eagles 88-63. Richard Bland continued on their undefeated streak with a 85-58 win yesterday evening. After a slow start, and trailing 6-9 after the first period, the Statesmen locked into gear and put up 30 points in the second period, outscoring the eagles by 15. Richard Bland held a 36-24 lead at the half. The Statesmen added 23 in the third and 26 in the fourth to earn the conference victory on the road.

 

Three Statesmen scored double-digit figures in the win. Janiah Jones led the way for Richard Bland with 22 points, eight rebounds, two steals and one assist. Jasmine Norman followed closely behind with 20 points, six rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block. Courtney Scott scored her fourth double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 boards. Scott also added three steals and two assists. Off the bench, Kennedee Matthews and Lauryn Bell had nine points each. Matthews was also credited with 10 boards, nine assists and three steals.

 

Richard Bland went 78.6% from the charity stripe, 38.8% from the field, and 27.6% at the perimeter.

 

The Richard Bland College women's basketball team next travels to Denmark Technical College on Saturday, January 14th for a 3pm non conference contest.
