Women’s Basketball Opens Semester with Non Conference Win

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College of William and Mary Women's Basketball team moves to 13-0 overall, 8-0 in conference play after hosting the Gators of Thomas Nelson Community College Saturday afternoon, and earning a forfeit win over USC Salkehatchie for the January 14th matchup.

 

The Statesmen opened the first quarter outscoring the Gators by 11, 16-5. The Statesmen almost doubled their scoring from the first quarter into the second with 30 points, to hold a 46-12 lead at the half. The Statesmen added 18 in the third, and 28 in the fourth to grab the 92-28 non conference win.

 

Four Statesmen scored double-digit figures in the win. Auzhane Allard scored her sixth double-double of the season with 24 points and 10 boards. She also chipped in with five assists. Jasmine Norman chipped in with 22 points, six assists, three rebounds, three blocks and two steals. Janiah Jones added 19 points, three rebounds and three assists. Amira Roy had 10 points and seven rebounds. Lauryn Bell led the boards with 13, and added seven points and six assists in the win.

 

Richard Bland went 55.6% from the charity stripe, 55.7% from the field, and 40.9% at the perimeter.

 

The Richard Bland College women's basketball team enters the spring semester ranked #19 in the nation for NJCAA Division II Women's Basketball. The Statesmen next travel to Fayetteville Technical Community College on Tuesday, January 10th. The conference contest is set to tip off at 6pm.
