Women’s Basketball Defeats Eagles Before the Break
SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College of William and Mary Women's Basketball team moves to 11-0 overall, 7-0 in conference play after hosting the Wake Technical Community College Eagles, Saturday afternoon.
The Statesmen opened the first quarter outscoring the Eagles by 11, 23-12. The Eagles and Statesmen matched 20 points each in the second quarter as Richard Bland took a 43-32 lead into the half. The Statesmen added 20 more in the third quarter and came out strong in the fourth adding 25, to defeat the Eagles, 88-63 at the final buzzer.
Five Statesmen scored double-digit figures in the win. Auzhane Allard led the scoring for Richard Bland with 22 points. Allard added five boards, two assists and one steal. Courtney Scott scored her second double-double of the season with 19 points and 13 boards. Scott also added four assists, two blocks and one steal. Off the bench, Janiah Jones chipped in with 15 points, five assists and one steal. Jasmine Norman was credited with 13 points, six assists, four rebounds, three steals and one block, while Kennedee Matthews added 10 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Richard Bland went 78.6% from the charity stripe, 45.6% from the field, and 22.2% at the perimeter.
The Richard Bland College inaugural women's basketball team enters the semester break at 11-0 overall, 7-0 in conference play, while coming in at #20 in the NJCAA Division II Women's Basketball National rankings. The Statesmen will be back in action on Saturday, January 7th to open up the spring 2023 semester at home, against Virginia Peninsula Community College; formerly known as Thomas Nelson Community College, in their second meeting of the 2022-23 season.
