Softball Season Concludes at Region 10 Tournament

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Softball team traveled to Big League Camp in Marion, North Carolina for the Region 10 DII Tournament Thursday-Friday afternoons. The Statesmen entered the tournament as the #2 East seed, and were first set to complete against #3 West, Wake Technical Community College. After picking up a 6-1 win, the Statesmen advanced to the next round, and faced the Hurricanes of Louisburg College. With a loss to the Hurricanes, the Statesmen faced Pitt Community College in the elimination bracket. After completion of the games, the Statesmen finished the season with a 23-22 overall record.

In the opening game against Wake Technical Community College, Richard Bland beat the Eagles 6-1 Thursday afternoon. A single by Grace Urban on an 0-2 count, put the Statesmen on the board in the bottom of the first. Urban earned the win for Richard Bland. The starter gave up two hits and one run over seven innings, striking out seven and walking four. Ashley Beamon, Urban, and Taylor green each collected two hits for Richard Bland. Samantha Barbe stole two bases in the game.

In the next round against Louisburg College, the Hurricanes came out victorious 0-8, thanks to six runs in the fourth inning. Louisburg got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning when a sacrifice bunt scored one run, a double scored one run, a triple scored two runs, and a ground out scored one run. Ashley Beamon went 1-for-3 at the plate to lead the Statesmen. Taylor Green took the loss for Richard Bland. The hurler went four innings, allowing six runs on four hits, striking out three and walking three.

In the elimination bracket against Pitt Community College, Richard Bland fell 2-5. A double put the Bulldogs on the board in the top of the third inning. The Bulldogs added one more run in the fourth, one in the fifth. The Statesmen battled pushing two across the plate in the seventh inning, but it was not enough. Grace Urban and Taylor Green each collected one hit for the Statesmen. Brayanna Holland led with one run batted in. Ashley Beamon paced the Statesmen with two walks. Urban started the game for Richard Bland. The right-handed pitcher gave up nine hits and four runs over five and one-third innings, striking out five and walking three.

The Richard Bland College Softball team has concluded the season at 23-22 overall, boasting the first 20+ win season since 2018.
