Softball Sweeps Conference Series Over Southeastern Rams

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Softball team hosted the Rams of Southeastern Community College-Whiteville on Friday and Saturday for the three-game conference series. After completion of the series, the Statesmen moved to 16-14 overall, and 11-6 in conference play after defeating the Rams 5-1, 10-0, and 8-0.

 

In game one, Richard Bland was triumphant over the Rams, 5-1. A sacrifice bunt by the Rams put them on the board in the top of the second inning. An error gave the Statesmen the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the fourth. Brayanna Holland led Richard Bland with two hits in three at bats. Claudia Minetree stole two bases. The Statesmen had patience at the plate, tallying four walks in the game, and stole four bases. Grace Urban earned the win for Richard Bland. The hurler surrendered five hits and one run over seven innings, striking out nine and walking none.

 

In game two, Richard Bland scored six runs in the fourth inning, which helped the team defeat the Rams, 10-0. McKynzi Dawson singled, scoring two runs, Grace Urban grounded out, scoring one run, Samantha Barbe tripled, scoring two runs, and Sydney Thompson drew a walk, scoring one run. The Statesmen get on the board in the first inning after Dawson singled, scoring one run. A triple by Urban, and a ground out by Arianna Manson help Richard Bland extend their lead in the third. Ashley Beamon and Dawson were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for the Statesmen while hitting back-to-back. Ava Balli earned the win for Richard Bland. The pitcher gave up three hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out six and walking none. Barbe tossed one inning of shutout ball for Richard Bland in relief. The right-handed pitcher surrendered one hit, striking out one and walking none.

 

In game three, Richard Bland got on the board in the bottom of the third inning after Ashley Beamon singled up the middle, and McKynzi Dawson laid down a sacrifice bunt, each scoring one run. Richard Bland tallied 11 hits in the game. Beamon and Claudia Minetree were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for the Statesmen. Dawson provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led with three runs batted in. Grace Urban earned the win for Richard Bland. The starter allowed three hits and zero runs over six innings, striking out six and walking one.

 

The Richard Bland College Softball team next travels to Pitt Community College on Wednesday, April 9th for a 2pm conference doubleheader.
