Green, Urban Pick Up Wins in Conference Doubleheader Sweep

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Softball team hosted Pitt Community College Wednesday afternoon for a conference doubleheader. After completion of the games, the Statesmen moved to 10-9 overall, and 5-1 in conference play after defeating the Bulldogs 5-2 and 5-3.

 

In game one, Richard Bland claimed victory over Pitt Community College, 5-2. The Statesmen got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Ashley Beamon doubled down the right field line, McKynzi Dawson doubled to center field, and Arianna Manson tripled down the right field line, each scoring one run. Grace Urban homered to center field, scoring two runs in the bottom of the fourth for Richard Bland. Taylor Green earned the win for Richard Bland. The right-handed pitcher surrendered four hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out seven and walking one. Urban went 1-for-1 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in. The Statesmen were sure-handed in the field and did not commit a single error.

 

In game two, Richard Bland was triumphant over the Bulldogs, 5-3. Pitt opened the scoring in the top of the first thanks to two singles. Richard Bland jumped into the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Ashley Beamon doubled to center field, Patricia Lett was struck by a pitch, and Brayanna Holland grounded out, each scoring one run. Pitt Community College scored on a wild pitch, which helped the Bulldogs tie the game at three in the top of the fourth. A single by Claudia Minetree gave Richard Bland the lead, 4-3, in the bottom of the inning. Grace Urban earned the win for Richard Bland. The right-handed pitcher allowed seven hits and three runs over seven innings, striking out nine and walking two. Lett went 2-for-2 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in.

 

The Richard Bland College Softball team next travels to Fayetteville Technical Community College on Friday, March 21st and Saturday, March 22nd for the three-game conference series with the Trojans.
