SOFTBALL RETURNS TO ACTION WITH PAIR OF WEEKEND DOUBLEHEADERS

SOFTBALL RETURNS TO ACTION WITH PAIR OF WEEKEND DOUBLEHEADERS

PETERSBURG, Va., (Feb. 19, 2016) – After a 19 day hiatus from playing seven games at the JUCO Kickoff Classic in Clearwater, Fla. in late January, the Richard Bland College softball team will launch its 2016 season in earnest with away doubleheader action against Florence-Darlington Technical College this Saturday and Southeastern Community College-Whiteville on Sunday.

The Statesmen (0-7) played a legion of perennial Division I powerhouse programs in Florida, a scheduling tactic head coach Martha Covington employs to get her two-time defending Region X Conference regular season champions ready for the long season. "We knew we would face very strong teams, several of which were nationally ranked heading into the season," says Covington. "You learn a lot from playing this type of top calibre Division I teams. It will prepare us for the rest of our season."
