Men’s Soccer Places Five on All-Region Teams
SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Men's Soccer team finished the season in 3rd place with a conference record of 7-2-3, and an overall record of 8-5-5. With a win in the Region 10 Quarterfinals over #6 seed, USC Salkehatchie, Richard Bland advanced to the Region 10 Semifinals match against #2 seed USC Lancaster. After completion of the Semifinal round, the Richard Bland men's soccer team's season came to an end. Monday afternoon, the men's soccer All-Region teams were announced.
Emilio Mesa Betancur and Ammar Nazih earned 1st team honors, Juan Santana and Connor Nickerson earned 2nd team honors, while Victor Manuel earned Honorable Mention.
Freshman midfielder, Emilio Mesa Betancur started 17 of 18 games for Richard Bland. Mesa Betancur tallied two shots on the season for the Statesmen.
Freshman defender, Ammar Nazih started 14 games for the Statesmen. Nazih was relied on heavily to boost and control the Statesmen back line, preventing multiple break downs for the Richard Bland defense.
Sophomore forward, Juan Santana started 17 of 18 games played this fall. He tallied seven goals (one game-winning) and 14 assists, for a total of 28 points on the season. Santana was a key component in the offensive attack for the Statesmen.
Sophomore defender, Connor Nickerson started all 18 games for Richard Bland. Nickerson tallied two goals (one game-winning) for four total points on the season. He was a key component of the Statesmen defensive line, working with Nazih, preventing break downs and forcing shots out.
Freshman forward, Victor Manuel started eight of 17 games played for Richard Bland. Manuel scored 11 goals (three game-winning) and earned four assists on the season for 26 total points.
