Men’s Soccer Headed to Region Semis After Defeating Indians

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College men's soccer team hosted the Indians of USC Salkehatchie Tuesday afternoon for the Region 10 Quarterfinal round of the Region 10 Championship Tournament. Richard Bland entered the tournament as the #3 seed, earning a home game against the #6 seed. Richard Bland earned a 3-0 victory, which moved the Statesmen to 8-4-5 overall.

 

The score remained even through the first 45 minutes of regulation. In the 48th minute, Victor Manuel was fouled in the penalty box of the Indians and was given a penalty kick. Juan Santana stepped up for the Statesmen, finding the back of the net on a hard, driven ball, to give the Statesmen the 1-0 lead. Twenty minutes later Manuel scored one of his own after receiving a ball from Patrick Dane from at the top of the box, scoring a low driven ball to the corner of the net. Dane sealed the win with eight minutes remaining, after crashing the net on a service ball from Alonso Villegas.

 

Thomas Seymour started the game in net for the Statesmen. He was credited with five saves on the day. The Richard Bland offense totaled 14 shots on the day, six on goal.

 

The Richard Bland College men's soccer team next travels to Lancaster, South Carolina on Friday, October 25th for the semifinals against USC Lancaster. Kickoff is set for 3pm. With a win, the Statesmen will advance to the Region 10 Championship, in hopes of winning their fourth consecutive Region 10 Championship title.
