SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College men's soccer team hosted the Hurricanes of Louisburg College for a non-conference match Monday afternoon. The Statesmen earned a 4-4 draw with Louisburg, moving the Statesmen to 5-4-4 overall and 5-2-3 in conference play.
Richard Bland got on the board first, taking an early lead in the 12th minute of the game when Alonso Villegas teamed up with Victor Manuel for a Manuel goal. Connor Nickerson pushed the Statesmen lead to two, when he found the back of the net off a pass from Juan Santana. Louisburg quickly brought themselves back into the game, scoring in the 27th and 35th minutes, and also taking the lead in the 38th minute. Sebastian Rodriguez tied the game in the 50th minute, assisted by Villegas, and struck one more time in the 75th minute, giving Santana his second assist of the day, but the Hurricanes found the back of the net one more time in the 83rd minute to tie the game, 4-4. Neither team was able to seal the win, and the game resulted in a 4-4 tie.
Thomas Seymour started between the pipes for the Statesmen. He was credited with five saves in 90 minutes of action.
The Richard Bland College men's soccer team next hosts USC Lancaster on Friday, October 11th. Kickoff is scheduled for 1pm. The game will be followed by the women's team also taking on the Lancers.
