Men’s Basketball Finishes Regular Season with Win Over Cobras, Awaits Region Tournament Opponent
SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Men's Basketball team traveled to Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute Saturday afternoon for their second meeting of the season with the Cobras. After completion of the contest, the Statesmen moved to 9-15 overall, 7-7 in conference play after defeating the Cobras, 77-69.
Saturday afternoon was a back and forth battle between the Statesmen and the Cobras. The Cobras held the upper edge heading into the break as they outscored the Statesmen 30-42 in the first 20 minutes of play. Coming out of the half, Richard Bland picked up the momentum and ran away with the game, outscoring Caldwell Community College 47-27, to earn a 77-69 conference victory to close out the regular season.
Doyle Brown led the way for Richard Bland scoring 29 points on the afternoon, followed by Jalen Smith with 18 points, nine assists, eight rebounds, and four steals. Dove Fishburne chipped in with 14 points and four steals, while Andy Ramirez had eight rebounds, six points, and three assists. Jermaine Coston Jr. totaled seven rebounds, six points, two assists, and two steals, and Richard Agbo chipped in with four points and four rebounds in the win.
Richard Bland shot 49.1% from the field, 30.0% from the perimeter, and 76.9% from the charity stripe.
The Richard Bland College Men's Basketball team next awaits their opponent for the Region 10/Atlantic District Tournament hosted by Catawba Valley Community College in Hickory, North Carolina. The win or go home tournament is set to begin Thursday, March 13th and run through Saturday, March 15th.
