Men’s Basketball Opens Second Half of Season with Overtime Victory
SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Men's Basketball team opened the second half of the season, prior to the start of the spring 2025 semester, by traveling to Patrick & Henry Community College for a non-conference contest Wednesday afternoon. After the contest, the Statesmen moved to 3-7 overall, 1-0 in conference play after defeating the Patriots, 78-77 in overtime.
Wednesday's contest was a battle from tip-off, to the final buzzer. The Patriots went ahead leading 38-39 at the break. The Statesmen outscored the Patriots 34-33 in the second half, to push the game into overtime. Richard Bland put up six points during the overtime battle, and the Patriots five, as the Statesmen held on for the victory.
Andy Ramirez led the way for the Statesmen with his third double-double of the season, scoring 28 points, 14 rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Doyle Brown added 12 points, three steals, and one rebound, while Jalen Smith scored his third double-double of the season with 11 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, and one steal. Jermaine Coston Jr. chipped in with nine points and two rebounds, Jack Ticic eight points and five rebounds, and Emmanuel Vonhm seven points and five rebounds. Dove Fishburne also added three points, two rebounds, and two assists in the win.
Richard Bland shot 51.1% from the field, 30.0% from the perimeter, and 77.1% from the charity stripe.
The Richard Bland College Men's Basketball team next travels to Bryant & Stratton College (VA) on Wednesday, January 15th for a 7pm contest.
