Howell Commits to Bluefield State University
SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – Larry Howell, a sophomore on the Richard Bland College men's basketball team has committed to continue his academic and athletic career at NCAA Division II Bluefield State University in Bluefield, West Virginia.
The Orangeburg, South Carolina native contributed to much success for the well-known program. He has been a key member to the men's basketball team success in Region 10 the last two seasons.
In his rookie season, Howell started 28 of 30 games played for the Statesmen. He went 116-305 from the field, 4-21 from the perimeter, and 62-99 from the charity stripe. Howell was credited with 298 total points, 211 rebounds, 43 steals, 39 assists, and 15 blocks. Howell also helped the team reach the Region 10 Division I tournament as the 6th seed.
In the starting wing's sophomore campaign, he started all 31 games for the Statesmen, totaling 1,088 minutes of action. Howell went 171-374 from the field, 11-33 from the perimeter, and 98-127 at the free throw line. Larry totaled 451 points on the season and was credited with 222 rebounds, 68 assists, 46 steals, and 17 blocks. He helped the team reach the Region 10 Division I Tournament as the 6th seed, and assisted in upsetting the 3rd seed to advance to the Semifinals. Richard Bland fell in the Semifinals, 77-82 to conclude the season.
Bluefield State University is a Division II member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, primarily competing in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Conference (CIAA).
