Kawa Signs with Marist College
SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – Martin Kawa, a sophomore on the Richard Bland College men's basketball team has signed to continue his academic and athletic career at NCAA Division I Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York.
The Stafford, Virginia native contributed to much success for the well-known program. He has been a key member to the men's basketball team success in Region 10 the last two seasons.
In his rookie season, Kawa started all 30 games for the Statesmen, tallying 1,025 minutes of action. He went 159-390 from the field, 29-99 from the perimeter, and 87-128 and the charity stripe. Kawa was credited with 434 points, 107 rebounds, 62 assists, 46 steals, and seven blocks. Kawa also helped the team reach the Region 10 Division I tournament as the 6th seed. Martin was a 2nd Team All-Region 10 selection as a freshman.
In the starting guard's sophomore campaign, he started all 31 games for the Statesmen, totaling 1,175 minutes of action. Kawa went 202-464 from the field, 50-141 from the perimeter, and 137-178 at the free throw line. Martin totaled 591 points on the season, reaching 1,000 career points at Richard Bland, in the Region 10 Tournament Quarterfinals. Kawa was credited with 159 rebounds, 105 assists, 45 steals, and nine blocks. He helped the team reach the Region 10 Division I Tournament as the 6th seed, and assisted in upsetting the 3rd seed to advance to the Semifinals. Richard Bland fell in the Semifinals, 77-82, as Martin Kawa was named 2nd Team All-Region 10.
Marist College is a Division I member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, competing in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
