SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA - The Richard Bland College men's basketball team finishes the regular season at 12-17 overall, 4-8 in conference play after hosting Cape Fear Community College Wednesday evening. Prior to the conference match-up, the men's basketball program recognized sophomores Jordan Morris, Ben Jones, Kelby Saunders Jr., Kevon West, Mahlik Munnerlyn, Noryen Lasley, and Eric Wood for their efforts while competing for the green and white.
After a back and forth battle early in the first half, Cape Fear pulled away to hold a 5 point, 29-24 lead at the break. The Statesmen outscored the Sea Devils 35-29 in the second half but it would not be enough as the Statesmen fell short in the 59-68 loss at home.
Martin Kawa led the way for Richard Bland with 20 points. Kevon West added 11 points, five assists, three rebounds, and three steals. Eric Wood chipped in with 10 points, six rebounds, and two assists. Larry Howell added eight points, seven rebounds, three assists, and one steal. Off the bench, Jordan Morris added six points, three steals and one rebound while Noryen Lasley had four points, five blocks, and two rebounds. Kelby Saunders Jr. added five rebounds and three steals, and Ibrahim Kourouma added three rebounds, two assists, and one steal in the loss.
Richard Bland went 66.7% from the charity stripe, 35.8% from the field, and 15.0% at the perimeter.
The Richard Bland College men's basketball team next prepares for the Region 10/Atlantic District Tournament which takes place March 9th-11th at Cape Fear Community College. Stay tuned for more updates on final tournament seedings.
