Esports Post Strong Showings Across Multiple Titles to Open Spring Competition

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — The Richard Bland College Esports program continued its competitive spring campaign with action across multiple titles, highlighted by key wins in Marvel Rivals, Valorant, and Mario Kart competition.

In Marvel Rivals Division I, the Statesmen rebounded from an opening loss to finish 3-1 through four contested matches. RBC secured wins over Guilford Technical Community College (3-2) and Daytona State College (3-2), while also earning a forfeit victory against Lake Sumter State College. The team now sits in strong position heading into a March 23 matchup with Bryant & Stratton College – Virginia Beach.

The Division III Marvel Rivals squad opened the season with a dominant 3-0 sweep over Iowa Central Community College but has since faced tough competition, dropping consecutive 2-3 matches to St. Charles Community College and Florida Gateway College.

In Valorant, Richard Bland has been one of the program's most consistent performers, posting a 4-2 record. The Statesmen earned wins over Rose State College (twice), Forsyth Technical Community College, and a bye victory, while narrowly falling to Mohave College (1-2) and Western Iowa Tech Community College (0-2).

The Fortnite team has shown resilience throughout the season, bouncing back from early losses to secure victories against Luzerne County Community College (2-0) and Northeastern Junior College (2-1).

In Overwatch, RBC earned its first win of the season with a 3-1 victory over Northwest State Community College on March 4, showcasing continued growth against a competitive schedule.

Super Smash Bros. competition has featured several standout individual performances.

• Moses Palacios-Veverkos leads Division II play with multiple wins, including sweeps over USC Sumter and Northwest State Community College.
• Evelyn Newman picked up a key 3-0 win against Cuyahoga Community College.
• Gabriel Gore has surged with back-to-back wins, including a 3-1 result over Northcentral Technical College.

In Mario Kart, Aeneas Leonard has been dominant in Division II competition, remaining undefeated with multiple 4-0 sweeps, while Seannon Duncan. has earned key victories, including a 4-3 win over Seward County Community College.

The Rocket League squad split results on the season, earning wins in BYE matches while continuing to battle through a competitive slate.

Finally, in Tekken 8, RBC has faced a challenging start to the season against strong opponents, continuing to gain valuable experience in close matchups.

Richard Bland College esports returns to action throughout the remainder of March as teams continue regular season play and position for postseason competition.
