SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA — The Richard Bland College Esports program has enjoyed a strong start to the 2025 fall season, earning multiple winning records and standout performances across its lineup of titles. From dominant sweeps in Marvel Rivals and an undefeated Fortnite campaign to top finishes in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and consistent play in Tekken 8 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the Statesmen have demonstrated depth, dedication, and steady growth across all competitions this semester.
Marvel Rivals:
The newly formed Marvel Rivals squad has impressed, posting a 5-1 record while earning multiple sweeps. RBC opened the campaign with 3-0 victories over State Fair CC, Finger Lakes CC, Crowder College, and Florida Gateway College, displaying sharp coordination and strong hero play.
Their only setback came in a hard-fought 2-3 loss to Arizona Western College, but the Statesmen quickly bounced back with another 3-0 sweep over Finger Lakes on October 20 to stay among the NJCAAE leaders.
Fortnite – Unbeaten and Building Momentum:
RBC's Fortnite duo remains undefeated at 5-0 after a stellar start to the semester. The team opened with a close 2-1 win over Northeastern Junior College, then picked up back-to-back victories against Northwest College, Finger Lakes CC, and Hinds CC before finishing this week with another 2-0 sweep of Finger Lakes.
Tekken 8 – Battling Through a Loaded Field:
The Tekken 8 team has navigated a challenging schedule to post a 4-4 record through midseason play. The Statesmen opened strong with wins over Finger Lakes CC and Lake Region State College, then faced a tough slate of national opponents including Monroe CC, Southwestern CC, and Southwest Wisconsin Tech.
RBC responded with two decisive 3-1 victories over Lake Region before closing this week with a loss to Finger Lakes. The group continues to refine its combo play and defensive precision heading into the late-season stretch.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – Singles Success Across the Board:
Richard Bland's Smash Ultimate roster has been active and competitive across multiple brackets this semester, led by Moses Palacios-Veverka, Evelyn Newman, and Robert Howard.
- Palacios-Veverka picked up wins against Finger Lakes, Bergen, Highland, Lake Region, and Navarro College, along with an in-house matchup victory over teammate Howard.

The team currently holds a 2-6 record after receiving a BYE win to close out last week, gaining valuable experience and team synergy heading into the next phase of the season.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Speed and Skill Lead the Way:
RBC racers Seannon Duncan and Aeneas Leonard have been dominant this fall, combining for an outstanding record on the national circuit.
- Duncan holds a 6-2 record, with key sweeps over Salt Lake CC, Missouri State–West Plains, and Marshalltown CC, and tight wins against Luzerne CC and Arapahoe CC.
- Leonard remains undefeated at 6-0, recording sweeps over Finger Lakes CC, Marshalltown CC, Missouri State–West Plains, and others while also claiming close victories against Seward County CC and Finger Lakes CC.
Valorant:
Despite an 0-6 start, the Valorant team has shown grit and marked improvement each week. RBC battled closely in 1-2 losses to Finger Lakes CC and Northwest Florida State College, demonstrating progress in team communication and mid-round execution.
The squad aims to carry its competitive experience into the closing matches of the fall and prepare for a stronger spring campaign.
Overwatch:
The Overwatch team continues to gain experience against top-tier NJCAAE competition, facing a tough early schedule that included Ranger College, St. Charles CC, SUNY Dutchess, and Central Lakes College. While the squad sits at 0-5, their communication and hero coordination continue to improve as they work to establish momentum entering the final weeks of the semester.
Looking Ahead
With multiple teams posting winning records and several standout individual performances, Richard Bland College eSports continues to grow as a rising program in NJCAAE competition. The Statesmen will look to close out the fall strong and carry that momentum into postseason and spring play.
