Baseball Celebrates Sophomore Day With Win Over Bobcats
SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Baseball team hosted the Bobcats of Bryant & Stratton College (VA) Wednesday afternoon for their final game of the regular season. After completion of the game, the Statesmen moved to 23-24 overall, 14-20 in conference play after picking up an 11-3 win at home. Prior to first pitch, the Statesmen recognized their 15 sophomores; Jackson Hulcher, Dylan Jones, Bradan Henderson, Samuel Young, Jaden Groome, Jordan Ramsey, Arthur Garnett, Macho Santiago, Carson Herod, Connor Smith, Elijah Clarke, Michael Duncan, Leif Vogler, Chris Wimmer, and Keegan Mahoney for a sophomore day celebration, for their hard work and commitment to the program during their time in the green and white.
In the game, Richard Bland scored six runs in the sixth inning, which helped them defeat Bryant & Stratton College, 11-3. Myles Holmes singled, scoring one run, Jordan Ramsey singled, scoring two runs, Carson Seely singled, scoring two runs, and Seth Truesdale grounded out, scoring one run. The Bobcats opened the scoring in the first after a single scored one run. Richard Bland took the lead in the bottom of the second inning after Samuel Young singled to center field, and Truesdale walked, each scoring one run. A sacrifice fly by Keegan Mahoney gave the Statesmen the lead, 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth. Richard Bland collected 13 hits in the win. Seely, Ramey, Macho Santiago, Young, and Holmes each collected two hits. Jackson Hulcher earned the win for Richard Bland. The hurler allowed four hits and two runs over five innings, striking out one and walking one. David Smith collected the save.
The Richard Bland College Baseball team next awaits the final weekend of Region 10 play to see if they have clinched a playoff spot for the first time in program history. More information will be announced on Monday, May 5th.
