Baseball Sets New Season Win Record with Sweep Over Rams

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Baseball team hosted the Rams of Southeastern Community College-Whiteville in their second conference series meeting of the season Sunday afternoon. After completion of the games, the Statesmen moved to 20-18 overall, 11-14 in conference play after defeating the Rams 4-3 and 4-1. With the game one win, the Statesmen surpassed a program record of most wins in a season with 19, and will look to continue adding onto the record.

 

Game one was cancelled due to weather and field conditions.

 

In game two, Richard Bland was triumphant over the Rams, 4-3 Sunday afternoon. Southeastern Community College opened the scoring in the top of the fourth thanks to two singles. Richard Bland took the lead, 3-2, in the bottom of the fourth thanks to singles by Jordan Ramsey and Henry Stewart. A double to center field by the Rams tied the game at three in the top of the fifth. Richard Bland took the lead in the bottom of the fifth as Connor Powell grounded out, scoring one run, to give the Statesmen the leg up, 4-3. Charlie Hogan earned the win for Richard Bland. The reliever allowed six hits and one run over three and one-third innings, striking out two and walking none. David Smith started the game for the Statesmen. The starter allowed six hits and two runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking none. Ryan Paul collected the save. Richard Bland collected nine hits in the game. Ramsey led with two runs batted in from the number seven spot in the lineup.

 

In game three, Richard Bland picked up a 4-1 win over the Rams. The Statesmen jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the third inning after a wild pitch scored one run, and an error scored two runs. Myles Holmes led the Statesmen with two hits in three at bats. Richard Bland turned one double play in the game. Jackson Hulcher earned the win for Richard Bland. The starter surrendered three hits and one run over six innings, striking out four and walking two. Luke Sweeney collected the save.

 

The Richard Bland College Baseball team next travels to Bryant & Stratton College (VA) on Wednesday, April 16th for a single, nine-inning conference game. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30pm.
